Policies
Everything in plain language, before you sign.
These are the rules we operate by for rentals, retail sales, and auctions. If something here is unclear, call (816) 359-2835 and we will walk through it with you.
Rental policies
- Mileage — 200 miles per day included
- Every rental includes 200 miles per day, pooled across the full rental period rather than enforced day by day. A three-day rental therefore includes 600 miles total.
- Mileage overages
- Miles beyond the included allowance are billed at $0.35 per mile at return. Planning a long trip? Tell us before pickup and we will quote a flat extended-mileage rate instead.
- Refundable security deposit
- A refundable deposit is authorized at pickup. It is released after the vehicle is returned on time, at the agreed fuel level, with no smoking odor and no damage beyond normal wear. Most deposits release the same business day.
- Insurance requirements
- Renters must present a valid personal auto policy or non-owner policy covering the rental period. A photo of your insurance card or declaration page is acceptable. We are insurance-friendly but we do not sell coverage.
- Age and license requirements
- Renters must be 21 or older with a valid, unexpired driver license. Drivers aged 21–24 pay a $15 per day young-driver surcharge. Additional drivers are free once they pass the same document check at pickup.
- No smoking
- All vehicles are non-smoking, including vape. A $250 remediation fee applies if smoke odor or residue is found at return, plus the cost of an ozone treatment if required.
- Cleaning and fuel
- Return the vehicle at the same fuel level and reasonably clean inside. Excessive cleaning (pet hair, spills, sand, trash) is billed at $75–$150 depending on the work required. Refueling service is billed at market rate plus $15.
- Late returns and extensions
- A 59-minute grace period applies. After that, late returns are billed hourly up to a full additional day. Extensions are almost always possible — call before your return time rather than after it.
- Geographic limits
- Rentals may be driven anywhere in the continental United States unless otherwise noted on the agreement. Vehicles may not leave the country, be used for rideshare or delivery platforms, or be sublet to another driver.
Sales policies
- Test drives
- Test drives run Mon–Sat 10 AM–6 PM from our Grandview lot. Bring a valid license and proof of insurance. A KC Auto & Rentals representative rides along on the first drive.
- Financing partners
- We work with local credit unions and regional lenders. Our financing inquiry form is not a credit application and does not trigger a hard credit pull — the lender collects anything further directly and in writing.
- As-is sales
- Used vehicles are sold as-is unless a written warranty is attached to the buyer order at delivery. The federal Buyers Guide posted in each window controls, and any prior verbal statement is superseded by the written agreement.
- Warranty and service contract options
- Third-party limited warranties and extended service contracts are available on most units under 100,000 miles. Pricing, coverage terms, and exclusions are provided in writing before you sign anything.
- Fees and taxes
- Advertised prices are cash prices excluding a $199 administrative fee, Missouri sales tax, title, registration, and any optional products you choose. Nothing gets added to your paperwork without being said out loud first.
- Trade-ins
- We appraise trades on site, generally in under 30 minutes. You are welcome to shop that number elsewhere — no pressure, no bait-and-switch on the appraisal after the fact.
Auction terms
Auction participation is governed by a separate one-page agreement covering binding bids, the 10% buyer premium, reserve versus no-reserve lots, as-is condition, the VIN inspection window, the 24-hour payment window, and dispute resolution.
